APRIL is really the KEY month for us home growers; there's still just enough time to get tomatoes sown, but equally, thoughts are turning to the big, bumper, high summer crops that fill (and overfill!) our beds until the autumn.. "This week, I have been mostly sowing.." BEANS! Fine bean 'Sultana' & 'Cobra' - both high quality, straight & fine; pencil-podded and high yielding. Also Neckargold' from Franchi Runner bean 'Enorma' (red flowered) & White Lady. Remember you can EAT the flowers so grow both colours for beauty in the border and on the plate Borlotti bean (climbing) 'Firetongue' from Franchi Seeds. I do LOVE Franchi seeds and use them wherever possible. Why? Dwarf bean 'Safari' which is a rather tender plant, but a superlative dwarf bean for kitchen use. The 'chef's choice' of the fine beans. |
